Jimmy Harris, Mayor of Madison County, named Exchange Club’s ‘Man of the Year’

Jimmy Harris, Mayor of Madison County, was named the Exchange Club’s Man of the Year during a ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Tuesday.

Harris said his wife, Loni – and a few other people – worked a way to get him to the ceremony, while keeping a well-guarded secret, prior to the 75th annual event.

“I’m very humbled and honored,” Harris said, “I was overcome emotionally after I saw my family … my brother and his wife, our son and daughter-in-law, two grandchildren and one nephew.

“To see previous winners who were in attendance, like Reggie Smith, was very special.

“I feel like a lot of other people are more deserving than me – there are some real giants in Jackson.”

Harris was presented the award by Richard Barber – the executive director of Aspell Recovery Services – the 2019 recipient.

“Richard (Barber) is a real superstar considering what he does for the community,” Harris said, “To receive the award from Richard made it even more special.”

Due to the pandemic, the program was canceled in 2020.

“To receive the award from the Exchange Club is also very special,” Harris said, “They also award the firefighter and deputy of the year. It’s great they spotlight the people they do in our community.”
