Jackson-Central Merry is back not only as an institution, but also as a football program.
Let’s make one thing clear, JCM hasn’t started varsity play; which means in all honesty that the schedule they’ve played this year has been cobbled together. The Cougars can claim one great thing and it’s they are the only public school in Jackson with a win.
Clearly, there is a hunger to return to the school’s historic athletic roots, especially when you see the athletic talent they produce. In fact, the current WNWS Player of the Week is Jonas Patterson, a sophomore running back for the Cougars.
Patterson’s accolades are proof that the JCM football program is on the correct path forward.
I would be lying if I said I don’t believe head coach Erit Turner’s (JCM Class of 2005) program won’t have growing pains – all good programs do. But it will be interesting to see how football can revive the Cougar spirit in the hub of the Hub City.
