Jackson Symphony Hopes to Deliver a Valentines Trip Through Time

JACKSON, Tenn.— a 17-piece band is gearing up to take Jackson by storm on Valentines Day at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, and the Jackson Symphony says it’s an event that can’t be missed.

In a throwback to days gone by where big bands ruled the stage and powerful voices swooned over the blare of horns on the Las Vegas Strip, the Jackson Symphony’s next pops concert promises to deliver a Valentines Night guests won’t soon forget. On Valentines Night, Jeremy Davis, Clay Johnson & the Equinox Orchestra will join the Jackson Symphony led by Peter Shannon for “An Evening at the Sands Hotel”.

If that name rings a bell, it should.

For decades, the Sands was one of the most iconic resorts on the Vegas Strip—the desert home of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin and the rat pack throughout the 1960s. Indeed, it is the year 1965 that the symphony hopes to transport guests back to as the Equinox Orchestra leads hits like “Lucky be a Lady Tonight”, “New York, New York”, and “Can’t Take My Eyes off of You”.

Tickets start at $25; students and senior citizens receive a $10 discount per ticket. For added Valentine’s vibe (at the price of $10), guests can receive a glass of champagne or wine, access to a special cupcake, cake pop and chocolate buffet, and a rose for the ladies.

For Jackson, the event is a major grab. The Equinox Orchestra thrives on the seductive sounds that once flowed from the Copa room at the Sands: the same romantic sounds that will swirl through the Carl Perkins Center on February 14, enhanced by Peter Shannon’s Jackson Symphony.

It’s the type of show and event that one might expect to find in a major city or resort town. In fact, the Equinox Orchestra’s stop in West Tennessee is bookended by a flight out of Baltimore and a trek over to Hilton Head, South Carolina for a private event. The orchestra’s lead vocalist, Jeremy Davis, has shared the stage with the likes of The Beach Boys, George Clinton, The Allman Brothers and Gov’t Mule. And co-star Clay Johnson has spent the better part of his life on stages from New York to Los Angeles.

For a sample of their work, watch the video above or head over to the iTunes store to listen to their album Great American Swagger.

Tickets are available via thejacksonsymphony.org or by calling 731-427-6440.
