For those looking to see the solar eclipse in downtown Jackson on Monday – it was off and on.
Clouds didn’t cooperate totally, so there was an occasional glance, but Jackson’s Mike Duke was in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and shared this photograph with WNWS.COM.
A total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th, 2024, was visible across North America and dubbed the Great North American Eclipse by some media.
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth.
A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon’s apparent diameter is larger than the Sun’s, blocking all direct sunlight, turning day into darkness. Totality occurs only in a narrow path across Earth’s surface, with the partial solar eclipse visible over a surrounding region thousands of kilometers wide.
