According to published reports, a 63-year-old man from Jackson, Tennessee, lost his life in a fatal collision on Interstate 40 in Nashville early Saturday morning, Metro Nashville Police Department reported.
According to authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 2:25 a.m. on I-40 West near the Highway 70 South exit in West Nashville.
Police say traffic was backed up due to a prior accident in the area. As a Hyundai Elantra slowed in response to the congestion, it was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer.
The Elantra’s driver, a resident of Jackson, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are in the process of contacting his family members.
