Running a 26.2 mile marathon was one thing, but having to navigate winds up to 30 miles per hour was another when the 50th running of the Andrew Jackson Marathon, was held Saturday.
Bobby Gallagher, 41, from Germantown, took first place overall in the marathon with a time of 3:25:38.
The race started and finished near the West Tennessee Farmers’ Market.
Cory Tulley, 40, who makes his home in Cordova, ran 3:28:52 and placed second.
Three women – Rachel Fischer, Rashni Barath and Rachel Brewer – were the next to finish.
Fischer, 33, from Amory, MS., ran 3:42:16 to claim the women’s title, followed by Barath, 47, from Tupelo, MS., with a 3:42:30, and Brewer, 28, from Madison, Alabama, at 3:50:35.
Steve Troxel, 63, was the first Jackson runner to complete the course when he recorded a 3:55:27.
He was seventh overall.
The marathon – and 13.1 mile half marathon – attracted 213 runners – 52 runners entered the marathon and 161 participated in the half marathon.
Casey Johnson, 36, of Jackson placed first in the Andrew Jackson Half Marathon.
Johnson completed the 13.1 mile course in 1:30:30.
Brittany Tucker, 38, from Memphis was the first female and second runner overall to complete the course.
Her time was 1:31 57.
Jackson’s Bob Ingalls, 33, ran a 1:37 21, and placed third overall, followed by Brad Zukowski, 43, from Scotts Hill, who completed the course in 1:38 17.
