Tyler O’Neill was named the Southern League’s Most Valuable Player in 2016.
Cron, who has a league leading 23 home runs going into the season’s final series at Tennessee, has also driven in 87 runs and contributed 58 extra-base hits and 242 total bases.
He has contributed 138 hits – 35 of which were doubles – and a .491 slugging percentage place him second in each category.
A member of the Southern League All-Star team, Cron hit .293 with 14 home runs and 48 RBI while adding a .920 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS).
From May 28 to June 23, he reached safely in 23-straight games for the Generals.
“Kevin Cron deserves every bit of this recognition for his hard work, preparation, and in-game performance throughout the course of the 2017 season,” Jackson manager J.R. House said. “He has been a leader in Jackson, a mentor for teammates, and an example of the type of player the Arizona Diamondbacks are attempting to develop within the minor league system.
“I am super proud of this young man and we look forward to his continual progression toward the big leagues.”
Cron also led the league in home runs with 26, while playing in Mobile in 2016, when the BayBears were the affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
