Station work, painting, repairs, installing flooring, ask any Jackson firefighter on the job with Neil
Schueller and you’ll hear that he does all of that and more. Schueller has been selected the Exchange
Club Firefighter of the Year, having served the department since July of 2018.
Schueller gets plenty of respect from his peers and from Jackson Fire Chief Don Friddle because of his
willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty with a great attitude and a smile.
His diligence and work ethic played a part in his getting the award. Schueller is assigned to Engine 12-A which is an extrication specialty unit. He says there are any number of firefighters who could have been selected but that he is honored to receive the award and to be recognized. Chief Friddle says, “Schueller is a huge asset to the fire department and exemplifies the definition of a Jackson firefighter,” says Friddle.
Firefighters have a job that few can realize and when you hear one firefighter call another ‘brother’ or
‘sister’, there’s a special meaning behind that because the bond between firefighters is so strong, “You’re relying on that person to have your back when you’re out on a job. We are a family.”
