The addition of $220,000 to the existing costs of the new City Court was one of 10 items that received a unanimous vote when the Jackson City Council held its monthly meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.

The new City Court is adjacent to the Jackson Police Department Complex, at 234 Institute Street.

MG Construction is building the new 13,500-square-facility on land owned by the City of Jackson.

Original construction costs were estimated at $2,682,216.

Additional resolutions and recommendations passed by the City Council included

– A revision of the City of Jackson’s Debt Management Policy.

– The authorization of the Mayor and City Officials to proceed with plans regarding refunding, and improvement bonds to refinance certain outstanding indebtedness and finance new capital expenditures.

– Approved an Initial Resolution determining to issue general obligation bonds – not to exceed $6.2 million.

– Support for an application to the Tennessee Department of Transportation for a Transportation Alternatives Grant for a downtown improvement project, which includes the intersection of Airways Boulevard and Main Street.

– The approval of the consideration of the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice.

First Readings

The City Council approved the rezoning of property located at 1132 Rushmeade Road from General Residential to Planned Unit Commercial Development for a new hotel.

Second Readings

An Ordinance to annex three Ordinances to zone an area referred to as ‘Summit,’ generally described as being located along the 4300 Block of U.S. Highway 45 North, north of Jack Exum Road, comprising of 95.5 acres.

The proposed zonings for this area are Highway Business District and Single Family Residential/Planned Residential Development District.
