Every member voted “yes,” except for Dr. Eric Jones and Dr. Niles Reddick who abstained. The Chamber issued a statement by Jim Ferrell, Chairman, Jackson Chamber Board of Directors and Kyle Spurgeon, President/CEO of Jackson Chamber.
“Continued improvement to public education is the most important component to improving the quality of life, per-capita income, wellness and overall economic success for every citizen of Jackson-Madison County. The Jackson Chamber Board of Directors, representing 1,195 businesses in our region, supports the the plan most recently developed and presented by Dr. Eric Jones to the Jackson-Madison County School Board on October 4, 2018.
The Jackson Chamber will continue to support needed improvements to our public education system in order for all students to receive and education that gives them options and opportunities as adults. Businesses provide the jobs and economic base from which our future graduates can and will improve their lives. The partnerships formed by students, teachers, administrators, school board members, all local elected officials, local businesses and manufacturers can enhance the quality of life of everyone in Jackson-Madison County.
Governments and schools must continued to work together with the business community to develop wider avenues of success for every student. Dr. Jones’ plans have us on the right path and we will all go down this path together to ensure success for every student and to position Jackson-Madison County as one of the most dynamic, successful and attractive communities in the country.”
