The price tag for a new Ford F-150 was $5,995, but consumer confidence continued its decline as the threat of a gasoline shortage loomed and long lines at gas stations appeared.
Inflation soared to 11.2% and interest rates climbed over 20%.
That was 1979, the same year George White opened Golden Circle Ford, and 45 years later, he and wife Nancy celebrated a true American success story – at 1432 U.S. Highway 45 Bypass.
“When I first bought the property, interest went to 21 percent,” Mr. White said, “It wasn’t humanly possible … this place was in bad shape when we bought it … we made it because of The Lord, and I give the Lord all the credit.
“I am so blessed – I thank the Lord every day.”
Mr. White opened his dealership at 265 West Lafayette Street, but one year later he made the move one year later to 317 Airways Boulevard.
But it was the move to the U.S. Highway 45 Bypass that helped the company expand its inventory and better serve the community.
“We do business the right way,” said Dameon Nowlin, dealer, partner. “We truly believe if take care of our customers, they are going to take care of us. We try to keep our customers coming back … that’s part of our slogan ‘The Golden Circle Difference,’ we really will take care of the customer.'”
While Golden Circle Ford is grateful for the support the people of Jackson have shown throughout the years, a visitor to the dealership can tell it is their loyalty and trust that has been the key to how the business continues to thrive and continue to provide quality vehicles at fair prices.
“What sets Golden Circle Ford apart from other dealerships is that we are family-owned and operated,” said Destini Kramer, who serves as the marketing manager. “My dad (Karl Kramer), my siblings, my brother-in-law, and even his family are all part of the team here.
“We work together every day to carry on the legacy and tradition that my grandfather started. It is a privilege to be able to work alongside my family and continue to serve our community in the way that my grandfather envisioned.”
Destini Kramer said at Golden Circle Ford, the dealership prides itself on offering the largest selection of quality vehicles in the area.
A selection that has grown over the last 45 years – considering Mr. White has added dealerships in Parsons, Lexington, Bolivar, Iuka, MS., and a site across from Golden Circle Ford – Quick Lane Pre-Owned.
“We believe that everyone deserves to have a reliable and affordable vehicle, and we are dedicated to helping our customers find the perfect car for their needs,” Destini said. “As we look towards the future, we are excited to continue serving the people of Jackson and providing them with the best service possible.
“We are committed to upholding the values and principles that have guided us for the past 45 years. We thank all of Jackson, Tennessee and the area for their continued support, and we look forward to many more years of serving this wonderful community.”
