Humboldt City Worker Succumbs To Injuries

HUMBOLDT Tenn (August 31, 2015) – George “Rockin Chair” Adams has been a fixture in Humboldt for many years. He worked for Jess Pritchard at Western Auto for many years as a handyman. For the past 25 years he has worked for the city of Humboldt.

On Monday, Adams and several others were working around Viking Park, behind Humboldt High School, clearing debris when an accident occurred. According to Humboldt Mayor Marvin Sikes, the crew had come back from lunch and were clearing out and pulling weeds in an area behind the high school around the park. Adams was working around a dead tree when the tree suddenly fell on him.

Sikes said the injuries were serious and Adams was airlifted to Memphis. Mayor Sikes said he met with Adams fellow employees around 1:30 at Bailey Park. “When he walked in “you could hear a pin drop”. Sikes said he talked with the group and they shared stories to try to lift up spirits after which they closed with prayer for Adams.

Mayor Sikes said he got a call about an hour later that Adams had passed away. George Rockin Chair Adams was a family man, father, grandfather, and loved by all in his extended Humboldt family. He was an active member of the Humboldt Lions Club and civic-minded, today Humboldt lost a good man and I lost a friend, said Sikes.
