Man accused in fatal Jackson hit-and-run surrenders to police
JACKSON — Jackson Police say the man responsible for a Oct. 15
hit-and-run fatality has surrendered to police.
According to a release from the Jackson Police Department 28-year-old Sean
Jamal Blackmon of Jackson surrendered to police Monday morning,
Authorities investigating the incident believe Blackmon was driver of a
vehicle that ran a stop sign at the intersection of North Lindsey Street
and Lexington Avenue and then hit another vehicle, killing the driver.
Police identified the victim as Marcus Jones. According to the release,
Jones was traveling west on Lexington Avenue. He was struck in the driver’s
door by a vehicle traveling north on Lindsey Street that failed to stop at
the stop sign. Witnesses told police, the driver of the vehicle that
struck Jones fled the scene on foot.
Authorities have charged Blackmon with reckless homicide, leaving the
scene, failure to stop and render aid, and simple possession of marijuana.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Jackson City Court.
