Renovations of the high school football stadiums at North Side and South Side high schools are progressing, and hopefully, both will be able to open the home portion of their schedule on time.
North Side is scheduled to open at home against Beech High School from Hendersonville, at 7 p.m., Friday, August 23.
South Side is scheduled to play its first home game one week later against USJ, at 7 p.m., Friday, August 30.
New metal bleachers are replacing concrete facilities at both locations, and additional amenities at both locations include new concession stands, ticket booths and restrooms.
Both stadiums will add a paved oval, which will allow practice for track programs at each school, and students in physical education classes.
A contingency plan is in place – just in case – the facility at North Side is not available.
The Indians would travel to Hendersonville for its game against Beech High School.
USJ head football coach Michael Stroup said he is not aware of a contingency plan at South Side.
“We understand they hope to have their stadium renovations completed by August 27,” Stroup said, “So we’ll know something as we get closer.”
