Heat Advisory In Effect

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Weather officials have issued a heat advisory for much of West Tennessee, eastern Arkansas and north Mississippi.

National Weather Service officials say the advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Forecasters say hot temperatures and high humidity will result in heat indexes of 105 to 110 degrees. The heat index is a measure of how hot it feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature.

Cities in the mid-South region affected by the advisory include Jonesboro and Forrest City in Arkansas, Memphis and Jackson in Tennessee, and Clarksdale and Holly Springs in Mississippi.

In Memphis, officials opened a cooling center at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library for people who need to escape the heat.
