Haywood loss elevates Covington to No. 1 in Bakers Rack ‘Baker’s Dozen’ high school coaches poll

Sponsored by the Bakers Rack, 205 E. Lafayette St., a new No. 1 tops the ‘Baker’s Dozen’ high school football coaches poll for the third straight week.

1) Covington (13-1) – defeated Pearl-Cohn, 31-28 in the Class 3A state semifinals. Next game: The Chargers will play Alcoa for the TSSAA Class 3A state title, at 3 p.m., Thursday, at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville.

2) Union City (12-2) – defeated Columbia Academy, 35-7 in the Class 2A state semifinals. Next game: The Golden Tornado will play Tyner for the TSSAA Class 2A state title, at 11 a.m., Friday, at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville.

3) Haywood (11-3) – The Tomcats lost to Springfield, 35-28 in the Class 4A semifinals. Next game: Season complete.
