BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.—A Haywood County Sheriff’s Deputy, Lt. Terry Smith, has been placed on leave pending an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. According to a release from Sheriff Melvin Bond, the investigation does not concern Smith’s conduct while on duty as a deputy of Haywood County.
It is unknown when the investigation will be concluded by TBI. In the mean time, Smith has been placed on leave with pay.
Lt. Smith has been with the Haywood County Sheriff’s Department since 2003, and has held the positions of field training officers, lieutenant and investigator.
