Groundbreaking held for new TBI Crime Lab & Regional Headquarters in Jackson

There was celebration, but there was also sadness when a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the De’ Greaun ReShun Frazier TBI Crime Laboratory & Regional Headquarters at 350 Smith Lane, Tuesday.

TBI Special Agent De’ Greaun Frazier died in the line of duty during an undercover operation in Jackson, Aug. 9, 2016.

He was hired by the TBI in 2016 and worked in the Drug Investigation Division.

“This reminds us law enforcement is a really dangerous business,” said Gov. Bill Haslam, “Special agent Frazier is the only person we have lost in the line of duty in the history of the TBI. As much as that hurts, it’s an honor for us to be able to recognize him.”

Gov. Haslam was joined at the ceremony with State Senator Ed Jackson (R-Jackson), Lieutenant Gov. Randy McNally, TBI Director David Rausch and Shannon Frazier, wife of the late De’ Greaun Frazier.

Prior to working at the TBI, Frazier had 15 years of public safety service with several law enforcement departments, including the Millington Police Department and the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

Located south of McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport, the new crime lab and regional headquarters will consist of 49,000-square-feet, and the the total project budget – building and equipment – is $26 million.

“This project actually started in 2010, and a lot of people went to the table to work on this,” said Jimmy Eldridge, state representative from Jackson, “This is fantastic … the number of jobs it will create, and the location is great.”

The new crime lab and regional headquarters is expected to create about 100 new jobs.

Continuing, Eldridge said “It’s more convenient, more centrally located for West Tennessee Law Enforcement, and it will be quicker and easier to get evidence there.”
