Friday Night Drive-By Shooting Leaves One Injured, Lots of Bullet Holes in Brownsville

Police have released the name of a man injured during a drive-by shooting that occurred on Young Street early Friday night in Brownsville.

Marquis Barken was treated for a non-life threatening injury at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was taken there in a private vehicle shortly after the shots were fired. Police say he was struck in the right calf. Barken is 26 and lives at 122 Young Street.

In addition to the bullet that hit Barken, shots damaged seven cars parked along Young Street. Bullets also struck the house located at 122 Young.  Barken, police said, was gathered with others who had just attended a funeral. Investigators don’t say it they know who the target of the gunfire was or why the shots were fired. Officers were called shortly before 6pm.

Police say witnesses were only to say that the shots came from a “…dark colored four-door newer car…”
