The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions softball team will make its first appearance in school history in the NAIA Softball World Series, when the annual event is held May 25 through May 31, in Clermont, Florida.
FHU earned the trip after winning three straight games in its Super Regional in Columbia, Kentucky.
The Lady Lions defeated Saint Xavier University from Chicago twice, after eliminating regional host Lindsey Wilson College in FHU’s first game, Tuesday.
“These girls never quit,” Todd Humphry said. “It was a total team effort (Tuesday), as everybody chipped in to pick up three straight wins.”

Needing one win, FHU led 4-0 after four innings, and increased the margin to 7-0 after six.
St. X was able to put three runs on the scoreboard, but Mallory Spurlock closed out the game for the Lady Lions (35-14), who become one of 10 tens to qualify for the World Series.
“This is what every softball player dreams of – playing in the College World Series,” said David Wade, FHU assistant coach. “Our seven seniors have done a good job leading this team, and it’s wonderful to still be playing this time of year.”
FHU is seeded No. 9 in the Softball World Series and is scheduled to play Faulkner University from Montgomery, Alabama, May 25 at noon, Eastern time.
