Former School Secretary Pleads Guilty to Stealing $140K

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Prosecutors say a former bookkeeper at an Arlington, TN high school has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $140,000 from the school.

Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich said in a statement on Monday that 49-year-old Toni J. Cox entered a guilty plea to felony theft of over $60,000.

Amy Weirich has said auditors from the state comptroller’s office found that $142,307 was missing from Arlington High School’s funds between July 2008 and June 2010.

The auditors said Cox, a financial secretary, altered collection records from school organizations, activities and fees. She resigned in May 2010.
