Sonny Melton, a former nurse at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, is one of at least 50 people who were killed in a mass shooting in Las Vegas, Sunday.
His death was confirmed by his wife, Heather, who was also taken to a hospital.
A resident of Big Sandy, Melton was in attendance at an outdoor concert – Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival – in Las Vegas, when a suspected gunman, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, killed at least 50 people and wounded more than 400.
The shooting is being called the deadliest in modern United States history.
A 2015 graduate of Union University, Sonny Melton earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Accelerated degree.
He left Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in September, 2016.
