The Forked Deer River Bridge on U.S. Highway 45 South becomes the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge, when the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 995 host a ‘Renaming Ceremony,’ in the VFW Post 6496 at 285 Airways Blvd., at 10 a.m., Tuesday.
The sign renaming the Bridge will be unveiled August 1.
The ceremony is open to the public and features State Senator Ed Jackson, State Representative Jimmy Eldridge, Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist and Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris.
Honored guests will be Vietnam War veterans and their families.
“We just want everyone to come down (Tuesday) to the VFW,” Bennie Denton, a Vietnam veteran said. “We want all veterans to come to this event because we feel like it’s special to us … it’s like a welcome home event we never got … we’re getting it 50 years later.”
VVA 995 Auxiliary will provide refreshments.
