(September 3, 2014, Jackson, TN) – On Wednesday in a 5th grade classroom at East Elementary, a student claimed to have a gun in a backpack.
According to JMCS, Ginger Carver, students in the class informed the teacher and the teacher quickly secured the backpack and searched the backpack but found no gun. The teacher followed protocol and was able to quickly settle down the class.
The student claiming to have the gun was removed from the classroom and from the school until further evaluation is complete.
Parents were notified via the school notification system.
