The interim tag has been removed, and Darryl W. Samuels Sr., is officially the Fire Chief of the City of Jackson.
Scott Conger, mayor of Jackson, made the announcement when the City Council held its monthly meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.
“It became effective Saturday, Nov. 2,” Samuels said, “I started with the Jackson Fire Department in 1975, and I ended my service in 2002. Then I became a consultant between the Jackson Fire Department and Central Dispatch for about eight years – until last year.”
Samuels said he received a call from then-Mayor Jerry Gist, who asked him take over as interim fire chief – after Max Stewart retired.
Samuels, who assumed the interim fire chief position Sept. 1, 2018, has certifications with the Association of Public Safety Communication Officials (APCO) and Public Safety Telecommunicators (PST).
He has been an APCO PST instructor, and he is past board chair of the Madison County Emergency Communications District and has held memberships with APCO, Tennessee Emergency Numbers Association (TENA), and National Emergency Numbers Association (NENA).
