‘COVID-19 has hurt our sales’ – Local restaurant opened 1 month before pandemic slowed economy

When the Americana Kitchen & Grille, 1100 Whitehall St., opened in February, Vanity Butler had no idea what the next month would bring.

“COVID-19 has hurt our sales,” said, Butler, who owns the restaurant, “But, we’ve been getting patrons from different factories, and employees from the Jackson and Madison County School System have been supporting us. Customers are also calling for to go orders, and we also deliver.”

Menu items include catfish, fried and grilled chicken, salmon, steaks – ribeye and New York Strip – greens, fried cabbage, macaroni and cheese, peach and strawberry cobbler, and Heath bar cake.

Business hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays.

Seating is available for 180 in the 5,500-square-foot facility, and the restaurant is the third tenant in the 18,000-square-foot retail center on the southeast corner of Dr. F.E. Wright Drive and Whitehall Street.

The restaurant also offers an outdoor patio.

Loving Arms, LLC, a provider of in-home living assistance for senior citizens, and Dove Family Dentistry, also lease space in the complex known as Bre Avenue at Madison Place.
