Monday evening the Madison County Commission voted 18-6 to spend $49.4 million on renovations to the Criminal Justice Center.
Commissioners Brown, Ellison, Martin, Montague, Pearson, and Spearman voted against the jail motion. Commissioner Beckham passed.
The renovations include adding 524 beds and expanding laundry and kitchen. The $49.4 million equals a cost of approximately $95,000 per bed.
