(August 9, 2013) Jackson, Tenn.- Earlier this month, City Councilman Ernest Brooks II attended the summer conference of the National League of Cities Institute for Youth, Education and Families in Washington D.C.
According to a release, the Institute for Youth, Education, and Families is an entity that helps municipal leaders act on behalf of children, youth, and families.
The release goes on to say that the Institute for Youth, Education, and Families was key in bringing First Lady Michelle Obama’s National “Let’s Move” program to Jackson.
At the conference, topics like education and after-school, youth development, early childhood success, and federal funding sources and support were discussed.
In a statement, Councilman Brooks said that, “I look forward to partnering with the NLC Institute for Youth, Education and Families, the Jackson Madison County School System, The city of Jackson and other stakeholders to bring a much needed comprehensive after-school and out of school program to Jackson Madison County. Supporting after-school programming should be part of our educational improvement strategy, economic development strategy, neighborhood development strategy, and crime prevention strategy. It’s all connected.”
