Scott Conger and Jerry Woods are headed for a runoff for the office of Mayor of the City of Jackson, June 18, after Conger earned 3,802 votes and Woods polled 3,069 ballots in Tuesday’s race.
Jimmy Eldridge, who was running second throughout the evening, led Woods by 82 votes with nine boxes remaining and finished with 2,808 votes.
Mark Johnstone received 1,193 votes and Vicky Foote 264.
The totals for Tuesday’s race totaled 11,136 compared to 11,629 in 2015.
In the City Council race, five members – Johnny Lee Dodd, Ernest Brooks II, Harvey Buchanan, Ross Priddy and David Cisco – won re-election.
Gary Pickens, Paul Taylor, Marda Phelps Wallace and Russ McKelvey won elections the first time they ran for public office.
