Club Sinsations Party Promoter Arrested Second Time

(February 4, 2014) Jackson TN – Tobious Blackwell, 27, of Oakfield, pled guilty in August on a charge of deceptive business practices in a homicide investigation. Investigators learned that Blackwell promoted a July 13, 2013 party at Club Sinsations on Bond Street. Raymon Carpenter, of Nashville, was murdered around 1:15 a.m. July 14 on the parking lot of Club Sinsations during the party.

Blackwell promoted the party via Facebook and Twitter. Blackwell distributed a flyer, which read "Outside Security Provided by JPD". Blackwell was aware that there was no contractual agreement between the City of Jackson and Club Sinsations for police officers to furnish outside security. Blackwell made a false or misleading statement in advertisement addressed to the public for the purpose of promoting the party.

On August 15, Jackson City Court judge Blake Anderson accepted Blackwell's guilty plea and sentenced him to six months probation. Judge Anderson also ordered that Blackwell pay court cost and a fine.

On Jan. 11, the Madison County Sheriff's Office charged Blackwell with two counts of aggravated domestic assault, reckless endangerment and domestic vandalism for an incident that occurred on Lakeshore Drive in Oakfield. Blackwell threatened his child's mother with a large stick and shattered the back glass window of her car while their six-year-old son was in the back seat. Pieces of broken glass fell on the child while he was in a car seat.

Blackwell was arrested, and he made a $20,000 bond the following day. His court date on those charges is 1 p.m. Feb. 18 in Madison County General Sessions Court.

In light of the sheriff's department arrest and Blackwell's failure to pay his fine and court cost for the city court conviction, a violation of probation warrant was issued. Blackwell surrendered this morning at the Jackson Police Department. Judge Anderson ordered Blackwell held at the Madison County Jail pending a probation revocation hearing at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Jackson City Court.

Raymon Carpenter's homicide remains an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department's Major Crimes Bureau at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477 (TIPS).
