Clinic plans to offer birthing, reproductive health services

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A nonprofit clinic in Memphis plans to use a vacant medical building to house the city’s first freestanding birthing center and a reproductive health center.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports that Choices – Memphis Center for Reproductive Health purchased the building in April to offer birthing center services, abortion services, gynecology, mental health services and sexual and reproductive health care.

Choices executive director Rebecca Terrell says the clinic will be the first nonprofit in the nation to offer such services under one roof.

The clinic will launch a campaign to raise $3 million to renovate the 8,000-square-foot building and add 4,200 square feet to the front and 2,900 square feet to the back. It will go before the Board of Adjustment on Oct. 26 to obtain zoning variances.
