City taxes, street paving highlight Jackson City Council meeting

Any increase in city taxes will be miniscule, and an additional $3 million plus was allocated to Capital Outlay for street paving topped the agenda when the Jackson City Council held its monthly meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.

“We had a proposal … an adjustment to property taxes (and) we ended up accepting the certified tax rate which means the average amount of taxes we bring in will remain the same for this year,” said Paul Taylor, Jackson City Councilman, “Some people will see a little increase and some will see a decrease, but across the board we are not taking anymore (money) in this year than we did last year.

“We also used part of our healthy fund balance to fund road resurfacing this year, and another couple of items – one, we’re getting started on our homeless shelter, and we approved our design and construction management for the project.”

The certified tax rate is 1.6114 per $100 of assessed value on all real and personal property, and the total funds allocated for street paving was $3,028,608.
