City of Jackson Planning Commission to amend regulations for accessory dwelling units

The City of Jackson held its monthly planning commission meeting on Sept. 6, where they ultimately decided to further extend regulations associated with accessory dwelling units within the city limits.

The new amendment that was passed 8-0 will allow non-family members to reside in the ADU’s, something that is not allowed under current ordinances.

The ADU’s can be either detached or attached to the primary residence, but cannot be larger than 850 square ft or 75% of the primary residence size, whichever is smaller.

The units will still have to abide by current setback regulations and are limited to one ADU per primary residence.

The ADU’s should have a shared driveway with the primary residence and must not be visible from the road. The primary homeowner must live in either the primary home or the ADU, meaning that both living spaces cannot be used for profit.

The goal of this provision is to create middle housing opportunities in Jackson. This new amendment is only applicable for those inside the city limits.
