JACKSON Tenn — At Tuesday’s Jackson City Council, the board unanimously approved giving a $600 pay supplement to city employees
The supplements are to help compensate employees who have gone sine July of 2013 without a pay increase. All full-time and part-time city employees who have worked for the city since January 1 of this year will receive the supplement.
The council also approved $24,000 for 40 retired employees who, Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist said, are covered under the pension plan.
The total for the supplement cost to the city will exceed $594,000, Gist said nearly $40,000 of the total will be paid by the Health and Sanitation and Sports Plex which funds those raises,
The Mayor said the city is able to do this because of money to be reimbursed to the city from FEMA for past disasters and severe weather. Gist said the city expects to receive grant dollars by the end of the current fiscal year for money the city has already spent totaling $592,507.
