The U.S. Census Bureau has about 330 million reasons (and counting) why everyone needs to take part in the 2020 Census.
“The Census is super important – Article 1 Section 2 mandates that we do it every 10 years,” Jacob Brimm said, “The first Census was done in 1790 by horseback.”
Brimm, a Partnership Specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau, made his comments following a meeting with elected officials, business leaders and media representatives at the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department, Tuesday.
Brimm directed the ‘Complete Count Committee’ for Jackson and Madison County – with the goal of having the 24 people in attendance to help educate and motivate the citizens of Jackson and Madison County before the forms are in the mail April 1, 2020.
The Census is broken down in five phases –
Education, awareness, motivation, reminder and a thank you.
“We want the surrounding areas, and all the areas represented by the people here to respond to the 2020 Centennial Census,” Brimm said, “(Census deals) with money, over $675 billion annually of distributed federal funds – more than that when you consider state funds.
“It touches everybody,” Brimm said, “It doesn’t matter who you are, it has to do with healthcare, education, roads, commerce, business … it has to do with appropriations of the House of Representatives.”
