JACKSON Tenn – The mother of John Christie was in court for her sentence hearing on Thursday.

Edythe Christie, 56, was convicted of Tampering with Evidence in the homicide investigation of her son John Christie.

John Christie, 31, is charged with Second Degree murder in the death of his wife Brittany

For her conviction Edythe Christie faced a possible sentence of 3 – 6 years as a range 1 offender.

On Thursday Judge Don Allen heard evidence for the sentencing phase from the defense. 5 witnesses testified on Christie’s behalf. Most of them knew her through her work with Cumberland Heights and her court work in Gibson County.

The prosecution presented to the judge the facts of the conviction including recorded jailhouse phone calls between Christie and her son.

Judge Allen said he could not ignore the weight of the evidence against Edythe Christie in her trial or the fact that she had not shown remorse or accepted responsibility for the offense.

Allen sentenced Christie to 4 and a half years incarceration in TDOC. She will only have to serve 150 days less time served and will complete the rest of her sentence on probation.

John Christie remains in custody at the Madison County Jail on $500,000 bond.
