Chris Ramey returns to Freed-Hardeman University as director of alumni development

Freed-Hardeman University President David Shannon has announced the hiring of Chris Ramey as director of alumni engagement.

According to a press release from the Bramblett Group, Ramey, who served an eight-year tenure as assistant director of alumni relations following his graduation, returns to his alma mater after 15 years of professional advancement work in the region.

Ramey leaves his position at the director of advancement at Jackson Christian School.

In discussing his new role, Ramey said, “I have treasured my relationships with members of the FHU family since I began working in the alumni office more than 20 years ago. I love our school and the legacy of excellence and lasting friendships that exist among her former students. Many great things are happening at Freed-Hardeman, and it’s an exciting time to serve alumni and friends again!”

Shannon, who has completed his first year as president of FHU, said, “Chris has a heart for Freed-Hardeman and members of the FHU family. Having that love for our school, combined with his advancement expertise, makes him a great addition to our strong community engagement team.”

Vice President for Community Engagement Dave Clouse added, “Chris has established himself as a servant leader in the region through his employment and volunteer work for several mission-driven organizations. We look forward to the ways he’ll help us serve FHU and those who make up our FHU family.”

Ramey, who holds a bachelor’s degree from FHU, has worked in advancement leadership roles for the Exchange Club/Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse and the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation.

His volunteer work includes Jackson Chamber of Commerce, Tennessee District Exchange Club, Jackson Exchange Club, WestStar Leadership Program and Leadership Jackson.

His honors have included Tennessee Exchangite of the Year, Jackson Exchangite of the Year, Jackson Chamber Emissary of the Year and Volunteer of the Year, Leadership Jackson Alumni Association’s COPE Award, Jackson’s Finest Young Professionals and Jackson Sun’s Top 40 Under 40.

Ramey and his wife, Mary, live in Jackson with their three children: Caroline, Brenley and Jackson. Mary is a faculty member at Jackson Christian School, and the Rameys are part of the North Jackson Church of Christ family.
