Business Spotlight – Julia Ewoldt – Marketing & Communications Specialist, UT Institute of Agriculture

Julia Ewoldt, a former News Anchor at WBBJ TV, is the new Marketing and Communications Specialist at the UT Institute of Agriculture.

Based at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, Grace Media Group visited with Julia – for a Question & Answer session.

Question: First, a little background information. Where are you originally from, where did you attend school and what was your major?

Answer: I was raised in Savannah, Tennessee and attended Hardin County High School.

From there, I attended the University of Tennessee at Martin, majoring in communications – major in broadcast journalism, and minoring in history.

Question: You told us about coming from a family of educators. Would you mind diving in a little deeper?

Answer: Fun Fact: My mom, dad, and brother are all teachers at Hardin County High School! My brother is actually getting married in December. They’re all super supportive of my career. They watched every morning for three years while I was on air at WBBJ.

Now, they plan on attending all the events I have here at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center.

Question: You mentioned your time in television. Will you tell us when you got your start, and what developed before you left for your new position.

Answer: I moved to Jackson for the opportunity I had at WBBJ. I started as a production assistant my senior year of college (Jan. 2018), commuting an hour at 4 a.m., then going back up around 10 a.m., for classes.

I was promoted to multimedia journalist the Monday after I graduated. From there, I moved up to Saturday Morning anchor, then Weekday Morning anchor.

Question: Would you tell us what Julia does with her spare time?

Answer: Something I really love to do outside of work is eat at local restaurants and try new food. I do it locally, on every vacation, and every work trip.

I also enjoy living near Downtown Jackson. I go shopping at the Farmers’ Market on Saturdays, attend concerts at the AMP, and hang out with my friends at Hub City Brewing.

Besides that, you may see me with my camera every once in a while. I started a small photography hobby while in college, and continue to this day.
