Brooks Rawson selected as new director of schools for Alamo City School District

From the Alamo School Board –

The Alamo City School Board is pleased to announce that Brooks Rawson has been selected to succeed Director Reecha Black as the next Director of Schools for the Alamo City School District.

In May of 2022 at the School Board retreat, current Director of Schools Reecha Black informed the board that she was ready to retire and explained that she wanted to allow the School Board adequate time to plan and discuss filling the position.

We are grateful for Director Black’s willingness to step out of retirement to selflessly serve the ACS District. She has exceeded expectations leading our school to exemplary status during a global pandemic. Under her leadership, Alamo City School has continued to excel in public education and has been recognized by the Tennessee Department of Education as a BEST FOR ALL District. She has credited that success to the school staff’s willingness to go the extra mile and work together to serve “every student, every day”. Reecha Black has impacted Alamo City School in incredible ways and has set high expectations for her successor. While the School Board regrets her exit as Director, we look forward to building upon the solid foundation that she has helped to build. Ms. Black will continue to be involved in the school system on a part-time basis where she will support the new Director of Schools.

On September 6, 2022 the Alamo City School Board discussed the position of Director of Schools during the regularly scheduled Board Meeting. After a unanimous vote, Mr. Brooks Rawson was hired to be the next Director of Schools for the Alamo City School District effective July 1, 2023.

Mr. Rawson has served as Principal for Bells Elementary School since 2016 and as the Principal of Alamo City School for eight years prior to that. He is devoted to the youth of Crockett County through education, sports, church and other community involvement. He has a desire to serve the people in our community and invest in the future of Alamo. He knows our people and our families and looks forward to meeting all those he has yet to meet. He is excited about coming back to Alamo and what the future holds. Brooks Rawson says, “I am excited to return to the place where my career began many years ago and where I have great memories. It is my goal to begin building relationships with the staff and to continue the “Tradition of Excellence” that has stood the test of time.”

Mr. Rawson will officially begin his employment with Alamo City School on January 1, 2023 in the role of Assistant Director and will occupy this role until he officially becomes Director of Schools on July 1, 2023.

The Alamo City School Board is pleased to welcome Brooks Rawson home to Alamo City School District and look forward to working together for many years of success to come, continuing our tradition of excellence.
