Boy’s Punishments Included Eating Cigarette Butts

SPRING CITY, Tenn. (AP) — A deputy has testified that the death of a 5-year-old Tennessee boy followed punishments that included eating cigarette butts and drinking dish soap.

Rhea County Sheriff's Detective Rocky Potter testified Wednesday during a preliminary court hearing for the boy's mother, 29-year-old Jessica Robbins, and her boyfriend, 22-year-old Bradley Adcox. Both are charged with murder and aggravated child abuse in the Aug. 30 death of Landon Robbins.

The couple had been charged initially with abuse and neglect after they told officers the boy received his injuries in a fall, but the charges were upgraded after an autopsy.

Judge Jimmy McKenzie bound the case over to the grand jury and declined to set bond.
