Misery loved extra innings at the Ballpark of Jackson, Thursday.
The Biloxi Shuckers extended the Jackson Generals losing streak to seven straight with their 4-2 win in 10 innings.
A solo home run by Troy Stokes Jr. broke a 2-2 tie in the the top of the 10th inning, and the Shuckers – the Southern League’s Double A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers – added a little insurance when a Blake Allemand single scored Tyrone Taylor with the second run of the inning.
“We had a chance to win, but their guys hit some well-placed balls,” Jackson manager J.R. House said. “We’ve got roughly 20 games remaining in the season … these guys need to stay motivated, keep going out there doing the best they can, day in and day out.
“It’s August, it’s a grind, but if it’s easy, everybody could do it. That’s why we’re here.”
J.R. Bradley (0-1, 4.50 ERA) picked up the loss after allowing both runs on three hits.
Brad Keller started for the Generals and surrendered one run on one hit in six innings of work.
The Generals, the Double A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks – took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth on the strength of Kevin Cron’s 23rd home run of the season, and a Daniel Lockhart sacrifice fly that scored Michael Perez (2-4), who reached earlier in the inning on a single.
Biloxi tied the game at 2-2 in their half of the ninth when a Angel Ortega single scored Dustin DeMuth.
The Generals (23-29) and Shuckers play game three in the best-of-five series at 7:05 p.m., Friday.
