Details are limited, but authorites have responded to a fire at the landfill at Gerdau, 801 Ameristeel Road.
The Jackson facility offers customers an array of products, including merchant steel, rebar, structural shapes, fabricated steel, flat rolled steel and wire rod at its 700,000-square-foot plant, which occupies about half of its 625 available acres.
Gerdau arrived in Jackson as Florida Steel with a staff of 15 in 1981, and 14 years later the company became Ameristeel. It changed to Gerdau Ameristeel in 2002, and the company was rebranded as Gerdau in 2011.
