Jackson Christian quarterback Austin Kelly is the NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM, WNWS.COM football ‘Player of the Week,’ after spreading the wealth during the Eagles’ 47-14 win at Peabody, Friday.
A junior, Kelly (16-21, 330 yards) threw touchdown passes to Easton James, Jay’len Mosley (2), and Trent Carrier as Jackson Christian improved to 2-0 this season.
“I thought we really executed,” Kelly said, “Our (offensive) linemen stepped up … I wasn’t touched one time, our receivers made big plays, and I just got the ball to our playmakers.
“We knew we were going to play hard on both sides of the football.”
Kelly also added a five-yard rushing touchdown for the Eagles, who had 475 yards total offense.
Coaches quote –
“Austin Kelly did an outstanding job leading our offense,” said Darby Palmer, Jackson Christian’s head football coach, “All of our players offensively – that whole unit came out and executed well.
“I think our whole team executed well in all three phases of the game. Practice-wise (last week) was really tough because we had only two full days of practice outside – and they were at night (due to heat).
“The schedule was off for our guys, but I thought it showed a lot of maturity from our guys by coming out and executing at a high level with limited practice due to the heat.”
Jackson Christian will play at Goodpasture, Friday.
