Each year, Kindergarten-8th Grade students across West Tennessee are invited to participate in the Jackson Symphony League’s Color of Music competition.

According to a press release from Keely Beasley – Augustine School – students are given classical music selections to listen to while creating a work of art that expresses their interpretation of the music.

This year’s musical selections were excerpts from Beethoven’s Symphony No 6 in F Major, Op 68: 1st Movement “Awakening of Cheerful Feelings” and 4th Movement “Thunder, Storm.”

We are thrilled to share that this year, 16 Augustine School students were selected as winners, including the top overall award of the competition.

The Jackson Symphony League Bravo Award, given to Augustine student Micah Curlin (7th Grade), is awarded to the student whose work best reflects the spirit of the Color of Music contest. The following students received Blue Ribbon Awards and Honorable Mention Awards:

Blue Ribbon Winners: Ginny Kate Miller (K), Charlie Blaschke (1st), Josiah Tilly (2nd), Makaelynn Baker (3rd), Iris Krantz (3rd), Jones Roberts (4th), Lydia Nickell (4th), Tessa Koenegstein (5th), Adia Kerfoot (5th), Chloe Bryant (5th), Gideon Musselman (6th), and Madi Preston (6th).

Honorable Mention Winners: Luke Walters (1st), Madie Miller (2nd), and Emily Davenport (8th).

We are so proud of our Augustine School artists and outstanding art teachers, Janelle Roberts and Rachel Tilly, for encouraging our students in their artistic pursuits.

An awards ceremony and reception is to be held at the Ned McWherter Cultural Arts Center at 314 E. Main Street in Jackson, Tennessee at 1 p.m., March 9, 2024.

Student artwork will also be on display and the event is open to the public.
