Ashley Smith, a University School of Jackson graduate and sister of NFL star Trey Smith of the Kansas City Chiefs – works for the National Football League. The office building where she works is located at 345 Park Avenue in Manhattan – where it is believed the shooter was looking for the NFL offices.
But – according to published reports – he took the wrong elevator.

Yesterday’s events at my office building—which houses the NFL and several other companies—were heartbreaking and surreal. So many of you have called, texted, or messaged me to check in, and I just want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.
I am safe and thank God for His protection. Although I stayed late at work yesterday, I left shortly before the shooter arrived.
My heart is heavy for the victims, their families, and everyone who works in that building. Please keep everyone lifted in your prayers.
This tragedy is a sobering reminder that life is a gift. Those who walked into work yesterday had no idea it would be their last day and they would never come home.
So today, I encourage you—hug your people, call your loved ones, and tell them you love them. Don’t wait. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us.
