Police have released no new information about two armed robberies that occurred Friday night in Brownsville. The back-to-back hold-ups occurred within a 15-minute period.
Two masked gunman held up employees who were in the process of closing the Dollar General Store located at 1417 East Main Street about 9:45 p.m. The duo wielded handguns and demanded money. They left only with one of the worker’s wallet and a cellphone.
At about 10 p.m. two men, also wearing masks, entered the Four-Way Market located at Tibbs Road and North McLemore. Guns drawn and pointed at a customer and the cashier, the robbers took about $700 in cash and checks.
No one was hurt in either robbery but police say a shot was fired. At Dollar General one of the victims heard a gun being cocked and police said they “heard the gun fire.”
Suspects in both incidents were similarly described but the descriptions provided in the police report also reported some differences.
Dollar General witnesses said both men were about 5’6” tall. Those who saw the robbers at Four-Way Market also described the men as about 5’6” tall. One man was heavy and the other slim according to those who saw them at Dollar General. The heavier of the two men wore all dark colored clothing and shoes. At the convenience store witnesses said one of the men wore “all blue.” Dollar General employees said the other man wore a “work type jacket, blue jeans and white tennis shoes. The second suspect at Four-Way Market was said to be wearing a “flowered or camouflage jacket, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.
At Dollar General witnesses reported one man had a revolver and the other a semi-automatic. At Four-Way Market the police report states both men reportedly pointed semi-automatics.
The suspects in both robberies wore masks that completely covered their faces. The police report states the gunmen were African-American.
