Amazon looking at vacant mall space for distribution centers

First, it was apartment units, and now it’s Amazon.

With Amazon in talks with Simon Property Group, the largest mall owner in the United States, to use vacant space once occupied by Sears for distribution hubs – or fullfillment centers – could the Old Hickory Mall be under consideration.

The Old Hickory Mall is owned by CBL & Associates Properties and has 89,000-square-feet of vacant space once occupied by Sears at 2021 North Highland Avenue.

Sears closed its store in the mall in March 2019.

Sears filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October, 2018, and two months later, announced its Jackson store at 2021 North Highland Avenue, was one of 80 stores nationwide the parent company would close.

Old Hickory Mall management could not be reached for comment.
