Alexander, Ball to Appear at Candidate Forum

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Republican U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander and challenger Gordon Ball plan to appear at a candidate forum hosted by the Farm Bureau in October.

Alexander won the Republican nomination for a third term in August over tea party-styled challenger Joe Carr, while Ball narrowly defeated fellow Knoxville attorney Terry Adams for the Democratic nod.

The forum will be held at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville on Oct. 16.

Alexander is a former two-term governor who also ran for president twice.

Ball largely self-funded his campaign for the Democratic nomination, stressing his moderate positions and tried to dissociate himself from President Barack Obama. He has acknowledged once appearing on a list of Democrats who supported Alexander’s Senate bids but has since called that decision “a huge mistake.”
