(August 30, 2013) Jackson, Tenn.- The 24th Annual African Street Festival begins Friday night at the Jackson Fairgrounds with the opening ceremony beginning at 6PM.
The Sankofa Drum & Dance Ensemble will perform during the opening ceremonies. The ensemble hails from Nashville.
Also happening on Friday night is a performance by the Liberty Technology Magnet High School Drum Line at 7:30PM. The drum line will be under the direction of Karen Henning.
Saturday brings another day of activities including multiple performances and presentations. The evening will be closed out by The Higher Ground Band from Nashville.
Sunday morning will open at 11AM with Church on the Street guest hosted by Pastor William Watson. The festivities continue with the Gospel Exploration.
The Zulu Connection from New Orleans, Louisiana will perform on Sunday evening, and the festival will be closed out by Bobby Rush.
The African Street Festival is presented by The Society for African American Cultural Awareness.
