African-American Trail Proposed in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Officials in Memphis are proposing the development of a historical trail dedicated to African-American leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr.

Housing and Community Development Director Robert Lipscomb told City Council members Tuesday night that the vision for the trail includes new monuments around downtown. He says tourists could visit the different sites with the help of multimedia elements such as a cell phone app.

Lipscomb said the proposal is still in its beginning stages and he would provide more details early next year. He says officials are seeking grants to minimize the cost.
